Early September at the Farmhouse
In early September, I had one of those aha moments! I had been working hard, and I mean by working hard, I wasn’t allowing myself any painting time. I would wake up and say, “Mehdi, there will be plenty of time to paint once your chores and projects are completed.” Deep down, the reality sinks in that there never is a completion of sorts in life. On a Thursday, my dear painter friend Bill Elston called to ask if he and a couple of his painting buddies could spend the morning at my farmhouse to paint whatever might capture their souls. “Sure…sure…no problem, come on over and enjoy the last bits of our summer sun”, I replied! Come Friday morning, my aha moment came to be when I decided that I could put my work aside to join the group in their mini paint-out. It was as though some vast weight was gently lifted off my shoulders as I looked around my property on that sunny morning, focusing on what may translate to canvas—the morning turned out perfect! Friends, camaraderie, hot black coffee, and a painting I am proud of! I also decided to do a better job balancing my packed work schedule with a touch more pleasure, which is being outdoors with my easel and canvas!
